ドイツ人アーティスト、ヘルムート・フェルター（Helmut Völter）の作品集。雲とははかないものである。19世紀から20世紀前半の間、形を正確に分類し、名づけ、読み取るために雲を研究することは大気に関する謎の解明に至る重要なステップと考えられていた。その頃まだ写真は初期の段階であったが、雲を記録する全く新しい方法を科学者たちにもたらした。科学者たちは本物のように正確なイメージを得るためにカメラを使い、これを通じて雲と大気の相互作用について理解を深めていった。映画監督でもある作者が手がけた本作『Cloud Studies』は、1880年代の創成期から1960年代に最初の気象衛星が撮影した画像まで、科学的な雲の写真の6つの異なる時代を紹介する。6つの章ではそれぞれ異なる特性を描いており、科学的、写真的な観点で雲のイメージが集められている。
