Warrior Spirit EarringsThis design was inspired by a 1700 Nootka or properly known as Nuuaanu war club acquired by colonizer Captain Cook. A lot of thought, research, and effort goes into conceptualizing and creating cultural designs. I found this design in the book A Wealth of Thought written by Franz Boas. I wanted to pay homage to my maternal Nuuaanu and breathe life back into this ancestral design, and for it to be worn in a modern way with a warrior spirit.

Though small and understated

who extracted them from our homelands

yet powerful enough to elevate any evening look

we are resilient as we navigate an oppressive system

this design reflects the divine masculine energy that fuels creation

but for a whole cycle and beyond

we honor this blend of the past and present by using similar adornments on our shawls and button blankets
